Former NYPD Officer Frank Serpico And Other NYPD Officers Rally Their Support Behind Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick has been out on the protesting ledge alone for quite sometime with very little people showing him they’re really rallying behind him.  Truth is he is not the first athlete to make a stand or chose to not stand for the national anthem or pledge allegiance to the flag of a country so open with its oppression of blacks and people of color and as life would have it he wont be the last.

Retired NYPD Detective Frank Serpico and other members of NYPD are rallying behind Colin Kaepernick.  Frank Serpico a legend in his own right has made a name for himself being the first police officer to expose police corruption within the NYPD.  He certainly paid a price for blowing the whistle on the department and nearly lost his life doing so.  For him to align himself with Kaepernick could only prove to be a step in the right direction.

No NFL team has been willing to sign Colin Kaepernick, so on Saturday, members of the NYPD, retired officer Frank Serpico and Councilman Jumaane Williams came together for a rally in Brooklyn to support the freeagent quarterback.

Kaepernick protested the national anthem last season because he said he was “not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”

A sergeant involved in organizing the rally said, per The New York Daily News:

“What Colin Kaepernick did is try to bring awareness that this nation unfortunately has ignored for far too long,” said NYPD Sgt. Edwin Raymond, who helped organize the Brooklyn event.

“And that’s the issue of racism in America and policing in America. We decided to gather here today because of the way he’s being railroaded for speaking the obvious truth.”

The officers wore T-shirts that said “#IMWITHKAP.” Per the Associated Press, the rally consisted of “about 75 mostly minority officers” with the exception of Serpico,, who’s known for exposing police corruption and said of supporting Kaepernick, again per The Daily News:

“I am here to support anyone who has the courage to stand up against injustice and oppression anywhere in this country and the world,” said the 81-year-old former detective.

Williams, who tweeted that he “proudly joined (the rally) by invitation” and wore a Kaepernick 49ers jersey, said at the gathering, via the video below:

“We have to tear down and be honest about this discussion. All of the people behind me risked their lives, so to speak, to protect folks, and they are standing with Kaepernick because they understand how important it is to push back on the structure.”

ICYMI: law enforcement members joined @JumaaneWilliams in on Saturday to send this message about @Kaepernick7. Take a listen.
